World Changers

It started with a simple phrase attached to the bottom of a Switchfoot newsletter. The letter was about a cause they believed in, and the encouragement to change the world by supporting causes like that. They signed it with four normal yet massively important words : The World You Want.

That phrase has stuck with me ever since. It is a continual reminder to fight for good in the little ways that arise daily. It has also shifted how I see the community around me.

I am surrounded by world changers everywhere I go, outside, the store, my church, the gym, at coffee shops. I will graduate from a class of world changers, walking in the footsteps of previous world changers and going before other world changers. They are all around us, making a difference one minute at a time, and you and I belong to this category as well.

This is a small realization, but one that has the potential to change everything. It can change the way we view the middle-of-the-morning-rush interactions. The afternoon haze of life when thoughts are overwhelming and your brain is struggling to make connections. It changes what we do in each second, the way we value every each opportunity. Passing strangers on the streets become eyes filled with stories that interweave and connect to countless other fascinating ones.

I am surrounded by people chasing after their dreams, striving to use their full potential, and intentionally creating in countless ways. This is so inspiring and continually pushes me to be better. When we use everything we have and cultivate what we’ve been given, change happens.

See, world changers are the kind of people who jump right in to the ordinary and find potential in everything. They see every story and soul they come into contact with as important and worth connecting with. One action at a time, they live intentionally and as a result make the world better.

“People who really want to make a difference in the world usually do it, in one way or another. And I’ve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren’t determined to revolutionize the world all at once; they’re satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world.” – Beth Clark, Kisses from Katie

You see the world through a unique perspective. Everything you do holds potential to shape the world around you. You have a one-of-a-kind take on the events unfolding in front of you, capturing them in diverse ways. Never underestimate the beauty of this. The way you respond in wonder and joy can lead others to hope.

Every action you take shapes the world. Every move you make impacts your surroundings. Each note played builds into the symphony, and each step you dance sets the rhythm. YOU have so much to offer, YOU can have an impact, the story YOU tell has significance, YOU can become hope and fight for good. It is that simple and overwhelming. You make the world you want friends. Do it well.

The World You Want,
